Apil's interest lies in primary health care; aged care to be specific. His doctoral thesis explored the understanding of decision-making by aged care nurses in transferring a resident to the emergency department. He supports the vision of efficient and accessible primary health care services in enabling older adults to live longer and healthier in the community. Being a strong advocate for social justice he strives to operationalise his dedication via qualitative research. He is interested in collaborative inter-disciplinary research focused at addressing social health issues.
